Ke Huy Quan Best Supporting Actor Win Oscars 2

Ke Huy Quan A Child Star Who Returned

Ke Huy Quan, a former child star who made a comeback in “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” received the Academy Award for best supporting actor. Quan took the stage to the first standing ovation of the evening and thanked his mother, who is at home watching from the audience, who is 84 years old. I just won an Oscar, Mama! With the victory, Quan’s awards season comes to a very emotional close. He gained notoriety before the age of adolescence by playing Harrison Ford’s sidekick in “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” (1984) and “The Goonies” (1985). But, Quan soon stopped acting when he discovered that there weren’t many significant film opportunities for Asians. Not until 2021’s “Everything Everywhere,” in which he played Waymond Wang, did he resume acting.

“My journey started on a boat. I spent a year in a refuge camp. And somehow, I ended up here on Hollywood’s biggest stage,” he said through tears. “They say stories like this only happen the movies. I cannot believe it’s happening to me. This — this is the American dream!”

He’s been the toast of awards season, winning statues at the Golden Globe, Critics’ Choice and SAG Awards, in addition to landing his first Oscar nod. It’s a touching coincidence that he’s been able to traverse the awards circuit with Steven Spielberg, who worked with Quan on “Indiana Jones” and is nominated for directing the semi-autobiographical drama “The Fabelmans.”

“You have to have faith in your dreams. He struggled to hold back tears as he added, “I nearly gave up on mine. Please keep your dream alive, to all of you out there.

Upon leaving the stage, Quan thanked the Academy and Hollywood for their support. I appreciate that,” he replied. I really appreciate you welcoming me back.
